The famous Table Mountain dominates Cape Town. On a clear day, take a cable car ride to the top and enjoy the most fabulous view of the city. The Victoria and Albert Waterfront offer an array of wonderful restaurants and have excellent shopping facilities. For those not wishing to hire a car, there are many organised day tours available from the city including the picturesque winelands areas of Stellenbosch and Paarl, Cape Agulhas, the most southerly point of Africa and where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, and Cape Peninsula. Of course, no trip to Cape Town would be complete without a trip to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
Cape Town is also the starting point for those wanting to experience the scenic journey known as the Garden Route, whether by organised tour or self drive. This journey will promise spectacular lakes and mountains, forests, rivers and golden beaches heading towards Plettenburg Bay and Port Elizabeth. Towns such as Hermanus, famous for whale watching, and the naturally beautiful areas of Mossel Bay, George and Knysna are great stopover points along the way. The semi-arid valley area of Outshoorn is worth visiting for the ostrich farm and the Cango Caves.
