North West Province
A province of contrasts, from the vast plains of African bushveld to the sophistication of 5 star luxury resorts, North West has breathtaking scenery, superb game parks and excellent golf courses.
The Madikwe Game Reserve is renowned as one of the best and largest in South Africa. The 65,000-hectare park has some tarmac roads, which allows the visitor to drive at their leisure through the park in their own vehicle. Madikwe is home to the ‘Big 5’ and to approximately 300 bird species.
Pilanesburg National Park is situated in the crater of a long extinct volcano. This stunning location has numerous Stone and Iron Age sites and is also home to the ‘Big 5’, and many bird species.
For the more adventurous, 4x4 trails, hiking, abseiling, ballooning, hang gliding, mountain biking, canoeing and white water rafting are available in various areas of the province.
Also here, and within just one and a half hours drive from Johannesburg, is the World famous Sun City resort in this area of South Africa. This extravagant complex of themed hotels, perhaps the most well known being The Palace of the Lost City, offers a most amazing playground of casinos, sports facilities, pools including the magnificent ‘Valley of Waves’, and man made beaches. Two World famous golf courses are within the complexes; one of which was designed by Gary Player. Children are very well catered for at the Sun City resort hotels.
