Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape, lying on the South Eastern coast of South Africa is an area of great natural beauty, particularly the rugged cliffs, rough seas and dense green bush.
The diverse landscapes range from deserts to forests and from fertile land to mountainous terrain. Long stretches of unspoilt sandy beaches line this coast.
The city of Port Elizabeth is a very popular starting point to the Garden Route towards Cape Town. With beautiful beaches, lovely walks, fantastic mountain bike trails, good surfing, and an array of watersport facilities including sailing, windsurfing, diving and kite surfing, this city is a great base for a holiday. A good choice of accommodation is available here to suit every pocket.
Eastern Cape has a huge choice of game viewing possibilities with 4 National Parks, 67 Provincial Parks and 35 private parks. Just 45 minutes drive from Port Elizabeth is Addo National Park famous for the ‘Big 7’! This park extends to the coast and therefore includes the whale and the great white shark among its claim for the‘Big 7’. Addo is the second largest park in South Africa and has a variety of accommodation from basic self-catering rooms and forest cabins to 5 star luxury properties.
The province is also home to the world famous Shamwari Game Reserve with luxurious accommodation; and the Craddock reserve, great for fishing and canoeing.
The Tsitsikamma National Park consists of rugged coastline, lush forests and at 216m, the largest bungee jump in the world!
South Africa’s only ski resort is also situated in this province with guaranteed snow from June to August.
